Written by celebrated playwright John Guare (Six Degrees of Separation, The House of Blue Leaves, A Free Man of Color is a comedy written to be performed by 32 actors. Originally commissioned for the Beaumont Stage at the Lincoln Center Theatre, the production ran October 2010 to January 2011 under the direction of Tony Award Winner George C. Wolfe (Angels in America). Set in New Orleans just prior to the historic Louisiana Purchase, the story chronicles Jacques Cornet, as his world of pleasure, drinking and beautiful people reaches challenges presented by the American rule to New Orleans. Both theater and history-buffs alike seek A Free Man of Color tickets as the play continues to receive productions at various theaters worldwide.
