About Atlanta Braves
After receiving a strong outing from starter Brandon Beachy, the Atlanta Braves bullpen gave up the lead and contributed to a 4-2 Braves loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night. Beachy pitched seven innings, giving up just two runs through his 104 pitch outing. He added two strikeouts to push his season ERA to 1.38 so far. Reliever Jonny Venters gave up two earned runs in the eighth inning on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Hunter Pence. Catcher Brian McCann hit his fourth home run of the season in the fourth inning off of Phillies starter Cole Hamels.
The Atlanta Braves surprised everyone this week when they sent young starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens to AAA after the young star has gotten off to a poor start. While optioning young stars to the minors is not uncommon, it is rare that a player that has had as much success as Jurrjens is sent down to work on his pitches. So far this season, Jurrjens is 0-2 with a 9.37 earned run average and a 2.45 WHIP, but in the past has put up very impressive numbers. In 2009, he won 14 games for the Braves with a 2.60 ERA, while last season he won 13 and sported a low 2.96 earned run average. It is expected that after putting in some work in AAA, Jurrjens will once again find himself in a big league uniform to try and get things back on track.
Coming into the season with high expectations, the Atlanta Braves have not gotten off to the start that they envisioned - the team has posted a 1-4 mark through the first 5 games and have given up a division-worst 24 runs over that time span. Offensively, the team has not looked too good as well - young stars Jason Heyward and Dan Uggla have posted batting averages of .200 and .167, respectively, while slugging catcher Brian McCann has also struggled with a .158 average. The team hopes to rebound against the Milwaukee Brewers in a three game series this weekend.

Atlanta Braves Tickets - Season Info
The Atlanta Braves come into the 2011 season with high expectations carrying over from their 2010 campaign. After finishing second in the division last season and losing out to the eventual World Series champions, the Braves decided to add some offense by signing All-Star Dan Uggla. Last season's roster has been left unchanged for the most part coming into 2011, so there's no reason the club can't expect similar results.
