Big Bang Not Your Typical Boy Band (Created April 17, 2013)

From the 1990's on and following the success of just about every boy band one could possibly name, meet the next group of heartthrobs to keep the hearts and minds of teenage girls aflutter. Except their names aren't exactly Harry, Nick or Lance. They also aren't American or British. Instead, this South Korean quintet has drawn steady praise from industry experts and won plenty of hearts of teenage fans.

Big Bang, as they're called, consists of G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri. Collectively, these guys got their big break when their hit song "Lies" sat at number one on the Korean charts for a record-smashing seven consecutive weeks. Two follow-up EPs, "Hot Issue" and "Stand up," continued that success, spawning hits such as "Last Farewell" and "Haru Haru." It also led to a series of honors for the group at the Seoul Music Awards, including Best Male Group, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year and the Grand Award of the event.

The members of Big Bang later took their music to Japan, branching out for a number of solo projects. But the band reunited after a two-year hiatus in Korea, releasing the album "Tonight" in 2011. They came out as winners of the Best Worldwide Act at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards, released their fifth EP, "Alive" in 2012 and wrapped their first-ever world tour in early 2013. The trek ran through four continents – Asia, North America, South America and Europe -- and attracted some 800,000 fans globally.
