Top Halloween Events in Chicago 2012
October 24: Justice at the Congress Theater
Kick off the countdown to Halloween with one of the hottest electronic acts in the world. Justice, the famous French DJ duo, are playing at Chicago's Congress Theater on Wednesday, the 24th. The show is all ages and runs from 6:30PM to 2:00AM. Come prepared to D.A.N.C.E. Tickets here.
October 26: Freaky Deaky at the Congress Theatre
Don't miss the self-billed "biggest Halloween party in the Midwest." Headlined by The Bloody Beetroots, this is a party that you definitely don't want to miss. The show is 17+ and runs from 7:30 to 2:00. Other acts include Wolfgang Gartner and Midnight Conspiracy. Tickets here.
October 27: Haunted Hotel Ball
Hosted in "the 20,000 square foot underbelly" of the Chicago Hilton, this ball is billed as "Chicago's best costume party." There's a huge costume contest, live music, and dancing. Tickets range from $60 for entrance to $2000 for a Malibu VIP package. Special hotel rates are available to partygoers who wish to stay the night.
October 29: Porn and Chicken
Held every Monday night from October 20 to November 26, this dance late-night rager is reputed to be every bit as crazy as its name would imply. Party goers dance to electronic music and munch on chicken wings while racy videos play in the background. Voted "Best Dance Party in Chicago" by the Chicago Reader two years running, this is not a party to miss. Performances by Craig Willias, Orville Kline, and several other notable DJ's. What a way to start your work week!
October 31: Sonar on Tour
The North American debut of a traveling concert series put on by Barcelona's Sonar Festival, which aims to "explore the boundaries of electronic music and its cultural iterations." Headlined by South American rap-rave group Die Antwoord, this is sure to be a Halloween night to remember. Don't miss it; buy your tickets now!
Top Halloween Things to Do in Chicago
From October 26-30, Daley Plaza transforms into Franken Plaza. There are, of course, decorations and candy, but that is just the beginning of the fun. There are also hayrides, magic shows, circuses, a "ghostly maze," and a "monster bash;" kids and adults looking to embrace their inner children are sure to have a great time. Really Big Halloween Party
Held October 19-31 at the Navy Pier, this family-friendly celebration offers pumpkin-carving, magic shows, trick or treating, music, and costume contests for adults and kids. Admission is free. For more information including times by date, see Navy Pier's blog.
Spooky Science at the Museum of Science and Industry
Science + Halloween = a pretty good time. From October 13-31, you can stop by the Museum of Science and Industry to participate in slime-making, pumpkin-smashing, eyeball-disecting, and Halloween themed chemistry shows, among other activities. Sure to delight your inner mad scientist. Entrance is $10 for kids and $15 for adults, but Chicago residents can get a discount.
THRILLER! Dance Workshop
Learn the iconic dance from Michael Jackson's hit song at this annual two-hour workshop. Held on Halloween night from 8-10PM. This event is usually popular, but walk-ins are welcome. Tickets are $30 at the door and $26 if bought by October 26. Held by May I Have this Dance.
Boo! at the Zoo
On October 20, 21, 27, and 28, from 11AM to 4PM, the Brookfield Zoo holds Halloween-themed children's celebrations. 1,000 pound jack-o'-lanterns, a huge corn maze, hayrides, and of course all the usual animals. Admission ranges by age from $10.50 to $15.00. More info at the zoo's website.
