Steven Martin Tour 2013
Maybe some of you aren't as surprised by this as I am, but apparently, Steve Martin is more than just a hilarious comedian. As I recently learned, when browsing his personal website, he sings and plays the banjo, an instrument he first picked up at age 17. Though the banjo was a staple of Martin's comedy career, he didn't release a musical album until 2009, when he dropped, The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo. (Dolly Parton is one of the featured artists!) The album went on to win the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album in 2010. Nice work, Steve. He has a newly completed album, Love Has Come For You (slated for release on April 23rd and featuring such stars as Esperanza Spalding on bass), and is embarking on a tour of the U.S. of A. with the Steep Canyon Rangers featuring Edie Brickell.
The band will be performing from both Love Has Come For You and the Grammy-nominated Rare Bird Alert. And as usual, they'll be mixing their winning combination of comedy and bluegrass, so expect laughs as well as delightful melodies. The fun begins on May 22nd, in Fort Lauderale, FL, at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall. From there, the band winds their way northward, ending the tour on July 2 in Pennsylvania.
For those of you who are interested in fun factoids: Edie Brickell is Paul Simon's wife. Talk about a folksy dream couple. And who knows, maybe Mr. Simon will pop out for a guest appearance...
