We can all thank St. Lawrence University for bringing together this talented group of musicians known as Grace Potter & the Nocturnals.
Grace Potter was originally approached by would-be-drummer Matt Burr at an open mic night she was performing at with the idea of forming a band. She declined. But later had a change of heart after a high school friend of hers (a bass player) also enrolled at St. Lawrence, making the potential band that much more complete. After picking up guitarist Scott Tournet, the lineup was complete and the band was ready to get serious about making music, which they did in the summer of 2003 after graduating.
With comparisons to Norah Jones and HoneyHoney (with a little more of a country sound IMO), this group offers up eclectic, but soothing tunes that lend themselves well to the live stage.
