2012 New York City Concerts
The most expensive concerts in New York City so far this year hail from a wide range of genres and audiences - from rock to rap to jam bands and boy bands - but one thing they have in common is that their tickets all cost over $200 on secondary markets. Howlin' for Hubert, a concert featuring Eric Clapton and Keith Richards among others to benefit the Jazz Foundation of America, has been the most expensive concert so far this year in New York City. Tickets for that show on February 24th at the Apollo Theater averaged $543 on secondary markets.
Tickets to the second-most expensive show, Jay-Z's first-ever appearance at Carnegie Hall on February 6th, went for almost 25% less than Howlin' for Hubert at an average price of $419.
Big ticket draws--both classic in Bruce Springsteen and emergent in One Direction--finished in the Top 5 of the rankings with average prices in the high $300 range. In fifth place so far this year is the Secret Policeman's Ball, an event that came over from the UK for the first time to benefit the Human Rights organization Amnesty International. Tickets to that event sold for $348 on average on secondary markets. Tickets for concerts at Beacon Theater featuring 70s-era jam/rock bands Furthur ($254 on April 18 and $244 on April 14) and The Allman Brothers on March 16 ($251) round out the bottom 3 of the top 10 most expensive shows since January 1.
New York City Summer Concerts 2012
One of the great things about being in New York City is that sooner or later, every performing artist eventually is going to make their way to town. The Big Apple is unavoidable as a touring destination and hosts some of the world's most renowned concert venues. Whether it be the Bowery Ballroom in the Lower East Side or Midtown's Madison Square Garden, you're never far from a great place to catch a show in NYC.
This year is no exception with top acts like One Direction, Beyonce, Aerosmith and Coldplay all booked to perform in NYC this summer.
Looking toward the summer, there is one event that stands out well ahead of the rest in terms of ticket prices: One Direction at Beacon Theater on May 26. Both showtimes - 3PM and 8PM - are going for over $300 more than the next-most expensive show right now this summer. The show at 3PM is selling tickets at an average of $578 on secondary markets while the show at 8PM is going for about $10 less at $568. That's more than double the current average price of a ticket to the third most-expensive show of the summer on secondary markets which is Stevie Nicks at $244.
