With the release of their 2007 debut album, Oracular Spectacular, psych-rockers MGMT were thrust into the spotlight and became the new "it" band on the music scene. It seemed that overnight they were household sensations, receiving accolades like "Artist to Watch" and "18th Best Album of the Decade" from publications like SPIN and Rolling Stone. Not to mention that time they were handpicked by Sir Paul McCartney to open for him during his two-night stint at Fenway Park. And then they sorta' disappeared.
Now they're back in the limelight as they begin revealing info about their third effort (we all kind of forgot about 2010's Congratulations), a self-titled album due out in June. Of the new tunes, frontman Ben Goldwasser told Rolling Stone, "We're not trying to make music that everyone understands the first time they hear it." To hear some of these non-apparent tunes, catch the band when they hit the road this spring and summer. Their tour kicks off on April 26 at University Park, PA, at Penn State, and wraps up on July 13 with a performance at Bunbury Music Festival in Cincinnati, OH, on July 13. You can also catch them at the Firefly Music Festival on June 21 in Dover, DE.
