Not all bands are so lucky as to have a wide-ranging and critically-acclaimed career. Much like a fine wine, the men of Modest Mouse have aged exceptionally well. To celebrate the fact that they’ve been making sweet, sweet (well, sometimes loud and pleasantly-jarring) music, Modest Mouse has unveiled a short list of summer headlining shows in the UK.The tour opens on July 8 in Brighton, and then moves to Bristol, Leeds, Manchester, and finishes up in Birmingham. Won’t be in the United Kingdom to see the tour? Don’t worry—the band will also play Coachella, Rock Werchter, and Longitude Festival this year, so there are plenty of chances to catch ‘em.
Since it’s the band’s twentieth anniversary, why don’t we run through some facts in celebration? Formed in Washington in 1993, the band got their name from a passage from the Virginia Woolf story “The Mark on the Wall.” This literary sensibility makes sense given the lyrical mastery of their songs. Though the band released a variety of recordings prior to 2000, the band found critical success in the new millennium. Modest Mouse hasn’t released a full-length studio album since 2007, but the band (and its rotating succession of members) continues to tour, pleasing old and new fans alike.
