UPDATE: More Tour Cancellations

They say the more often you have a good attitude the more often you have a good day. Unfortunately for Morrissey, his current negative attitude toward meat-eaters, duck hunters, Jimmy Kimmel, and even Sir Paul McCartney (yeah, Moz, don't go there) have clearly turned the karma gods against him. The singer recently had to cancel tour dates due to illness, and he's actually gotten even sicker. He apparently suffers from Barrett's esophagus (my Dad has that, just take some OTC heartburn medicine dude), has a bleeding ulcer, and was hospitalized for double pneumonia last week. Hm, bleeding ulcer, sounds like a good name for a new Smiths tune. In all seriousness though, feel better, Moz. Maybe try some chicken noodle soup, minus the chicken. Meat is obvi murder.

UPDATE: Spring Tour Dates

The Moz is at it again. Firstly, after cancellations that we reported earlier this year due to illness, he's gone and announced a slew of additional tour dates slated for the spring. You can catch the mercurial Morrissey throughout the West and Midwest, kicking off on March 18 at the Liberty Hall in Lawrence, KS, and wrapping up on April 30 at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco, CA. Besides that news, the singer has been making waves recently after canceling his appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in protest of the cast of "Duck Dynasty" appearing on the same evening. Of the cancelation Morrissey stated, "I can't take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers." Tell us how you really feel, Moz.

UPDATE: Cancellations

After having to reschedule tour dates last year into 2013 due to the illness of his mother, the sick bug caught either Morrissey himself or a member of his band last week, resulting in a few cancellations this past weekend.

The shows that had been scheduled for January 24 in Flint, Michigan at The Whiting, January 25 in Minneapolis at the Orpheum Theatre and January 26 in Chicago at the Chicago Theatre were cancelled due to the mysterious illness. According to Pollstar, the website for the Chicago Theatre only referred to a "band member illness" and that "Morrissey would like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience and wishes his band a speedy recovery. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and look forward to your continued patronage of The Chicago Theatre."

Fans in Minneapolis and Chicago have been requested to hold on to tickets as it appears the shows will be rescheduled at a future date.

The tour is scheduled to resume January 28 in Asheville, North Carolina at The Orange Peel.

UPDATE 10/26/2012

Scratch our previous update – Morrissey has officially postponed all of his US concerts to be with his ailing mother. Ticketholders are "highly encouraged" to hold onto their tickets, however, as the singer is still planning to reschedule.

UPDATE 10/22/2012

Taking time off to attend to his ailing mom, Morrissey has postponed a number of upcoming concerts. Affected cities include Pittsburgh, PA (10/23); Columbus, OH (10/24); Flint, MI (10/26); and Chicago, IL (10/27) – or the rocker's next four shows. As of now, all performances scheduled for after the 27th remain on track. Prospective audience-members are encouraged to hold on to their tickets, as the shows are not being canceled, only rescheduled for later dates, TBD.

Morrissey has just announced the addition of several New Zealand and Australia concert dates to his upcoming tour. The latest set of shows is scheduled for December 14-22, coming at the tail end of the rocker's North American series:

Neither dead nor irrelevant, even after 30+ years in the industry, the former frontman for The Smiths continues to aggrandize his own myth with new material and performances. This fall, "one of the most singular figures in Western popular culture" (re: Pitchfork) will embark on a three-month national tour, playing the insta-classics fans have come to expect from a musician of such enduring acclaim.

The 53-year-old Steven Morrissey began his historic career singing for rock bands in the late '70s. Success arrived in the form of punk outfit The Smiths, whose 1984 debut album reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart. The ensemble split four years later, but the end of his group proved to be the beginning of Morrissey as a breakout artist. Since the early '90s, the vocalist has been recording on and off, climbing to the top of international charts and continuing to impress fans with live performances that have yet to wane in energy.
