BET’s Music Matters Fest
Interested in the next big things in hip-hop and R&B? Well, so is BET! So much so that they’re bringing you the hottest new acts in music care of their “Music Matters” tour. The 2013 edition of this tour is a 19-city affair kicking off on November 4 in San Francisco, but, other than that, the lineup has been kept under pretty tight wraps. We know that it will be an all-ladies affair with K. Michelle as one of the performers, but other than that we’ll have to sit and wait. What we do know is that the 2013 “Music Matters” Tour will make stops in Los Angeles, CA; New York, NY; Phoenix, AZ; Dallas, TX; Baltimore, MD, and Boston, MA, to name a few. Tickets are on sale now, as well as “Meet & Greet” passes for those who want to get even closer to the musicians. Stay tuned here for lineup news, and for ticket information, visit BET’s Music Matters page.
So how did BET come to be? It all began when cable lobbyist Robert L. Johnson set out to create his own network. With a loan of $15,000 and a $500,000 investment from media executive John Malone, BET launched on January 25, 1980, becoming a full-fledged network in 1983. In 1991, it became the first African American-controlled company to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). As of today, 80 percent of households with cable television receive BET in their channel lineup.
