Top Seattle Festivals
Decibel Festival is an annual event that emphasizes the digital arts, both musically and artistically. If you like electronic music, or are interested in the production of it, you'll find plenty of intriguing attractions. Top artists, record labels and musical equipment producers gather here to push the boundaries of the industry year after year. The festival sprawls throughout Seattle, although most event are centered around Capitol Hill and Downtown.
Out To Lunch Summer Concert Series
July 10-September 20
A series of concerts in Downtown Seattle. These shows will truly have something for everyone- the genre, band and venue change each week, providing music ranging from swing to reggae in a variety of locations. All in all, the series will account for 22 concerts in Seattle this summer. The best part? It's completely free.
Capitol Hill Block Party
This three day festival is an annual tradition in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. Although the event began as a one-day show, its popularity among fans and artists has steadily risen since its inception in 1997. With several big names appearing, including The Flaming Lips, this year's CHBP promises to be one of the most exciting yet
This festival is a newcomer to the Northwest music scene, but it has certainly made a splash in the country music world. Although its first appearance was only last summer, Watershed Festival is already featuring prominent artists in the genre. Toby Keith, Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley and many more are set to appear this year in the Gorge. This is definitely a can't-miss for any country music fans.
Mount Baker Rhythm & Blues Festival
Keeping true to it's name, this festival features some of the best blues music you can find West of the Rockies. The weekend event lets you buy individual-day or full-weekend passes, priced at $65-$70 and $135, respectively. Our recommendation? Go for the weekend and bring some comfortable chairs.
Subdued Stringband Jamboree
This grassroots festival spans three nights and two days, and every minute of it is catered to acoustic music. It features more than 80% local bands from the area, though as the festival has grown bigger, so have some of the artists on stage. Definitely worth checking out for a relaxed weekend with nothing but good music (especially for $60 weekend passes!).
107.7 The End Summer Camp
Radio station KNDD's annual summer festival takes place in Redmond's Marymoor Park. It offers a nice sampling of both up-and-coming and established alternative rock groups. Tickets are only $27.50 for the day, although there is an optional $100 'Summer Camp Counselor Experience' package which lets you meet some of the artists.
Vanfest (not to be confused with 'Canada's largest custom van and truck show') will have three stages and an acoustic tent this year, meaning that it now offers more music than ever before. With cheap ticket prices ($10 ahead, $15 day of), this certainly seems like a must-see event for anyone involved in the indie music scene. Check it out if you're into 'Alternative Hip-Hop Neo-Soul', 'hyperactive psychedelic math rock' or anything else you might have a hard time defining.
August 31 - September 2
Bumbershoot is perhaps the most well-known of Seattle festivals, and not without good reason. Since its inception in the 1970s as a regional event, it has grown to international proportions. Although the main emphasis of the festival is good music (not of any particular genre), there are plenty of other attractions to enjoy in the performance and art sections.
