Keep your eyes and ears peeled for Jessie Ware, everyone. She’s been gaining attention ever since her debut album, Devotion, came out in August of last year. Named as “one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year”, Devotion peaked at No. 5 in the UK and includes three of Jessie Ware’s singles that were released earlier in the month. Jessie’s got the potential makings of a pop star too--and not just your generic, run-of-the-mill kind of pop star either. A pop star who is exploring uncharted waters in the realm of R&B with her electro-dance twist on a more classic writing and singing style. The result is music that is equal parts mellow, upbeat, and mesmerizing. Trust us, you’re going to love her. In fact, if you liked our SeatGeek Spotlight artist from two weeks ago, Disclosure, then you’ll be interested to know that she actually featured in the song titled “Confess to Me”. We’ve got you covered.
Surprisingly enough, Jessie Ware almost didn’t become a singer. Can you believe that? No effortless yet soulful vocals crooning love and heartbreak through wistful lyrics? No alluring, distinct voice floating to us over catchy beats? What a sad, sad world. Thankfully, in 2010 an old friend of hers from school, Jack Penate, asked her to do backup vocals while on tour, and helped introduce her to musical project SBTRKT and the new record label, PMR. PMR snapped her up immediately, and the rest is history.
Her current tour has made some noise in the secondary market. Jessie sold out shows in influential US venues like The Independent, Music Hall of Williamsburg, Royale Boston and the 9:30 Club. Keep an eye out for her on the festival circuit this summer as well: She’ll be playing at Lollapalooza, Outside Lands and Wireless Festival with some of the biggest names in music. Be sure to check her out, as her “Devotion” to disrupting the music scene has only just begun.
