Umphrey's McGee Extends 15th Anniversary Tour
It’s hard to believe 1997 was fifteen years ago, but here we are in 2013 reading memes about what it was like being a 90s kid and celebrating the 15th anniversary of Umphrey’s McGee. If you’re new to the scene or it’s just been a while since you’ve listened to those jam band CDs a friend in high school burned for you (only to get wedged between car seats years later), UM is a band that often gets compared to the likes of Phish, Grateful Dead, Moe, and the String Cheese Incident. The band’s organic live experience where one show will never be the same as another (as the jam band culture might attest) is what makes the experience of seeing them live all the more worthwhile.
After a round of concerts in April, Umphrey’s McGee has announced that they will hit the road again throughout the month of August. From the looks of the full list of dates, which includes stops at Chicago’s Charter One Pavilion, Philadelphia’s Mann Center for the Performing Arts, and Boston’s Bank of America Pavilion, UM will be gracing outdoor audiences with what might be some of the best tunes of the summer. Check out the full list below for a show near you.

Umphrey's McGee Tour 2013
Umphrey's McGee is currently in the middle of their 15th anniversary tour, which just saw the rock/jam hybrid performing at NYC's Brooklyn Bowl. Now, they've added additional dates to the tour, which will take place during the month of April. The new dates include multiple gigs in Florida, Arizona and Texas, as well as a gig on April 14, at Sun Trustees Theatre in Savannah, GA. The shows kick off on April 11, when UM perform at Freebird Live in Jacksonville Beach, FL. It wraps up with a twofer in Texas, which concludes on April 20, at Stubb's in Austin.
Umphrey's McGee got their start on the jam band circuit in 1997, and – like many other jam bands – earned themselves a large following through extensive touring and other grassroots efforts. Their popularity also grew right around the time that Phish went on their first hiatus, leaving hippies of the world scratching their heads wondering what was next. Their music is a blend of progressive improvisation, jazz, blues, and funk, and they cite influences as far-reaching as Iron Maiden Yes and Led Zeppelin. Their latest album, 2011's Death By Stereo, was released on ATO Records and received three out of five stars from AllMusic.
