You’ve heard us talk about Britney Spears and her album Circus, and circus shots in the NBA and college basketball, but this marks our first post on actual circuses.

Circus Shows NYC – Notable Acts

The most renowned circus show in New York City right now is most certainly Cirque Du Soleil – Zarkana ran at Radio City Music Hall in 2011, and now Michael Jackson The Immortal Tour is coming to both the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ and the famous Madison Square Garden in Midtown Manhattan near Penn Station.

Recently SeatGeek partnered with Bloomberg Philantropies with our DNyA project to bring more attention to smaller scale NYC arts including NYC circus shows. The SeatGeek team had the opportunity to attend one of these events (technically an extreme dance performance) from STREB and it was very action-packed, entertaining and much more affordable than Cirque du Soleil. With that said, there is something to be said for watching the different styles of Circus shows available here in NYC, so below I have updated the current shows and will continue to update these as new events arise. At SeatGeek, we were sad to read this story in the Salt Lake Tribune that Karl Malone–a former Utah Jazz legend and NBA Hall of Famer–was forced to buy his own ticket to a Jazz game last February played in the wake of Jerry Sloan’s dismissal as the Jazz coach.

According to the Tribune:

What happened to Sloan had festered inside Malone for long enough. In the immediate aftermath, he came to Utah to express concern, buying his own ticket to the next game at EnergySolutions Arena via a scalper because the Jazz had told him there were no tickets available for him, and spoke to reporters.

In light of this report that an NBA legend wasn’t able to easily obtain tickets to see the very team he helped bring to prominence, we here at SeatGeek felt compelled to offer our assistance.

As such, we want to formally extend Mr. Malone the offer of four (4) lower-level tickets to any Jazz home game this season, as well as four (4) lower-level Jazz tickets to be donated to the charity of Mr. Malone’s choosing.

2012 Final Four Ticket Prices & Lottery Information (Face Value)

Every year the NCAA holds a lottery which is open to the public to vie for Final Four tickets. The application process is already underway for 2012 Final Four tickets at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.  Each entrant has the opportunity to apply for up to four seats.

If you are picked in the lottery you will be able to purchase Final Four 2012 tickets as well as 2012 NCAA Championship game tickets.  Your credit card will be charged for the tickets if you apply, but if you are not picked in the lottery the charges will be refunded. The deadline to enter is either May 31, 2011 or up until 20,000 applications have been received, whichever comes first. Selection will take place in July, 2011 and winners will be notified beginning in August 2011. Winners of the 2012 Final Four tickets lottery will receive their coveted ticket books in February of 2012 just in time for madness.

If you aren’t participating in the lottery and are wondering when do final four tickets go on sale to the general public, your best bet is going to be the resale market (so sign-up for our newsletter above to get notified when tickets hit the open market). In 2011, tickets hit the resale market in October of 2010, so I would expect a similar time frame for 2012 and will be sure to update this post accordingly.

The top contenders for the NCAA national championship are Syracuse, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio St. and Baylor. With perennial threats Duke, UConn and Michigan State looming.

There are a few things going on here:

• Because most of the volume comes in the days leading up to the event (see chart below), the volatility lessens and tickets fluctuate closer to the average
• Early on, as a mix of both small volume, lack of information, etc. there is a lot more fluctuation around the average price
• Spikes don’t necessarily indicate that someone overpayed because this is for all sections and on a low volume day where someone buys a bunch of 100 level seats the daily average would skew upward

The graph below represents the % of Total 2011 Final Four Ticket Activity by Day. I.e. if there was 100 total sales, and 10 on 3/23, that would show up as 10%. The sum of all the bars is 100%.

• 50% of ticket sales occur in the 9 days leading up to the start of the Final Four
• 80% of ticket sales occur in the 51 days leading up to the start of the Final Four
• Stuff gets really real when you would expect…the day of the first elite 8 games (3/26) there was a 248% in ticket sales followed by another 209% increase the next day (obviously due to the fact that this is when fans finally know which teams are actually in the final four).

I don’t think there is another release of primary market tickets with the exception of the schools that make it into the Final Four in New Orleans.

Steve Martin is packing up his banjo and hitting the road. The actor and comedian, who has a love for the banjo and has been playing since he was a teenager, announced his “Rare Bird Alert” tour with his supporting band, The Steep Canyon Rangers.

The tour will be in support of their new album of the same title and will visit the cities of Reno, Porterville (CA), Indio, Santa Barbara, Boston, Kansas City and Rochester (NY).

Martin’s banjo playing has also garnered him critical acclaim. He won the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album for his “The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo” and is currently up for the 2012 Grammy in the same category for “Rare Bird Alert.”

My Morning Jacket – a favorite among past SeatGeek interns – is going home to Louisville for the tenth anniversary of the Forecastle Festival. The event will take place this year from July 13 through July 15 at Waterfront Park in Louisville.

Started in 2002, the Forecastle Festival is a 3 day music, art and environmental awareness event held each year in Louisville, Kentucky. It started off local and has gone on to become a major event featuring big name touring bands and attracting over 30,000 fans each year.

My Morning Jacket, Louisville native sons, will not only be the headlining act on July 14 but will also help the show organizers in building out the band lineup as well as scouting environmental sponsor partners.

Last year we looked at what a Super Bowl 35 ticket was worth in more detail.

Yes, indeed — Lady Gaga’s gaga over Google. And, man, that’s a mouthful of g’s. All joking aside, it turns out that the latest news on the outrageous and groundbreaking music star has just recently jumped onto the Google+ bandwagon. And not a moment too soon.

You’d be a fool not to see it coming given that Gaga’s probably one of the most popular Facebook and Twitter users out there. Still, she fell behind on the Google+ department compared to when Google+ became available to the whole public.

She’s currently at 10,000 followers. Not too shabby for only logging a new account last week. What do you expect? The “Paparazzi” and “Born This Way” superstar’s pretty big these days. Total number of cyber-fans out there — combining her Facebook page and Twitter account — is around the 46.5 million mark.

Still, not only did she fall behind on signing up for Google+ at a good time, she fell behind many artists out there that have had accounts for quite awhile — such as Britney Spears Snoop Dogg.

Oh, yes, those two have Google+ accounts! Seriously. I’m not joking.

Now it’s only a matter of time before the avant-garde music artist climbs up to the top of the recommendations with her new-found Google+ account, already posting updates as we speak.

We simply have to wait for Katy Perry and Justin Bieber to get on the bandwagon now. They don’t have Google+. Losers.

The American Idol rocker’s still going strong, obviously, as he recently announced the beginning of his upcoming tour featuring the multi-platinum selling third album “Break the Spell” by 19 Recordings/RCA Records. That’s Chris Daughtry for you, rockin’ it out as always. Isn’t it any wonder why he didn’t win American Idol from way back?

Still, it seems as if he really didn’t need the Idol crown. I repeat: multi-platinum. ‘Nuff said. Look for the start of this tour hitting the ground on March 20, right in Buffalo, NY. April 30 will be the ending date in New York City. Details about the stops in between? Check here for the goods.

Obviously band members as well — guitarists Josh Steely and Brian Craddock, bass guitarist Josh Paul, and drummer Robin Diaz — are pretty jazzed to bring some good ol’ Daughtry rock ‘n’ roll into the mix of the new year, and you shall be, too. But that’s not all….

Apparently, Daughtry’s also welcoming special guest along for the ride: Nashville’s very own pop rock group SafetySuit. Talk about adding fuel to the rock ‘n’ roll fire. It was hot enough with Daughtry on stage. Be prepared to feel the heat….

Of course, Daughtry’s not all fun and games with the hard rock scene. He actually has plans to promote charity on this new tour, featuring an initiative to battle the disease of malaria most prevalent in Africa. $1 from each ticket he sells will go right to the cause of “Malaria No More,” a non-profit dedicated to eradicating the horrible infection.

And speaking of tickets…. Wondering when you can find them? Good question — but I’ve got a good answer, too! Expect the tickets to show up around January 20th.

So get your wallets out. They’ll go fast. You don’t want to miss this tour — not at all.

Brad Paisley Wrigley Field Tickets

First Roger Waters, now Brad Paisley is coming to the The Friendly Confines this summer. As part of his 2012 summer tour, Paisley announced he will be performing a gig at Wrigley Field on June 9, a day after Waters performs “The Wall” at the ballpark.

Paisley’s “Virtual Reality Tour” will feature Miranda Lambert and The Band Perry as two of the supporting acts.

Paisley has the distinction of being one of only a few acts to have performed or that will perform at the home of the Chicago Cubs. Other acts include Roger Waters, Paul McCartney, Rascal Flatts, Dave Matthews Band, The Police, Jimmy Buffett and Elton John & Billy Joel. Very distinguished company I would say.

Besides the fact that Super Bowl XLII features two of the NFL most popular franchises in the New York Giants and New England Patriots, it’s also convenient the two fanbases have an unadulterated hatred for each other. Super Bowl XLII is the most expensive event that SeatGeek has ever tracked and we’re thinking the intrigue surrounding a rematch of Super Bowl XLII has a lot to do with it.

The Giants upset the Patriots in 2008 while handing them their first loss of the season, ending a pristine streak of 18 games. The two sides met previously in 2011, where a 1-yard touchdown pass from Eli Manning in the final seconds sealed the game at 24-20 for New York. The Patriots haven’t looked back, stringing together 10 straight wins since their meeting with the Giants in Week 9. In case you were wondering, the average ticket price for that showdown was $331, making it the most demanded game involving the Giants this regular season.

As it happens, it looks like New Yorkers will have plenty of company in Indy for pre-game tailgating. Just shy of one third of all shoppers on SeatGeek’s Super Bowl event page within the last 72 hours hail from New York and New Jersey, far outpacing the traffic from users in New England. 22% of all shoppers to the page came from New York, while 9% came from New Jersey. By comparison, users from Massachusetts account for only 8% of all traffic, and the sum of all users from the six New England states (MA, CT, ME, RI, NH and VT) only adds up to 14.4% total.

2012 has proven to be a very busy time for members of Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All aka OFWGKTA aka Golf Wang. Frank Ocean‘s highly anticipated debut album is set to drop this year. Tyler, the Creator has been busy prepping “Wolf” for spring, his followup to last year’s “Goblin.” The Internet just dropped “Purple Naked Ladies” in the past year. MellowHype is putting the finishing touches on his album set for a summer release “Numbers.” Oh, and OFWGKTA is dropping a new album too.

The album includes new music from Tyler, the Creator, as well as Hodgy Beats, Frank Ocean, Leftbrain, Domo Genesis, Mike G, Syd the Kid and the Internet. The album drops March 20th. To promote the Odd Future album, the gang will be putting together 10 pop-up stores in 10 different cities. Not only will you be able to watch Odd Future, but you’ll also be able to purchase merchandise and music. Each show will open with a viewing of their Adult Swim collaboration Loiter Squad, sketches, bits and some antics that sound reminiscent of Jackass.

It’s going to be a pretty crazy slew of Golf Wang members touring all over the country. Expect a lot of demand for these tickets, as it’s a pretty rare event of only 10 Dates, 10 Cities, in 10 Pop-Up Stores. In addition, they’ll be playing both Fridays at Coachella this April.

Rockstar Mayhem Festival Tickets 2012

It’s been 2008 since Slipknot released an album but they’ve been tapped to headline Rockstar’s Mayhem Festival. The Des Moines, Iowa (wait, what?) troupe has been prolific since their formation in 1995. Spotify’s description of Slipknot’s music as a “mix of grinding, post-Korn alternative metal, Marilyn Mason-esque neo-shock rock and rap-metal” was instrumental into putting them into the forefront of the nu-metal explosions of the 90s. Probably more so than their music is Slipknot’s stage presence as they perform in industrial jump suits with horrifying and spooky masks. Each of the nine members loses his identity on stage and in lieu of a name, adopts a number, zero through eight.

Corey Taylor of Slipknot says “You knew we’d be back. Now, you know we’re coming. This will be a tour people will scarcely want to miss. It will definitely be a show to remember. Can’t wait to see the states again from behind a mask.”

The festival will visit 26 cities over five weeks. Not only will Slipknot headline, but so will legendary metal band Slayer and another band soon to be announced. These three bands will be supported by Anthrax, The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying, Asking Alexandria, Whitechapel, and High On Fire. A few of these bands will be on either the Vans Warped Tour 2012 or at Bamboozle 2012.

It is going to be quite a busy spring for Florence + the Machine (Florence and the Machine).
