Phish Returns To Madison Square Garden For Sold Out New Year’s Run

UPDATE: There will be a Phish New Years Eve show in NYC for 2011-12. Check out that link for more ticket info.

In 2000, Phish shocked fans when they abruptly announced they would be taking an indefinte hiatus from recording, touring, and walking away from the band as it stood. As rumors flew about egos, drug problems, and more, no one was quite sure when the band would return, but almost every Phish phan was sure that it would happen some day. That day came in 2002, when Phish announced they would play a New Year’s Eve concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The concert received mixed reviews, with critics quick to lambast the band for returning without enough practice, simply carrying on a washed up dream.

Phish continued to tour throughout 2004, when they announced they would be calling it quits for good with a sold out festival in Coventry, VT. The band disappeared for the most part, besides some solo albums and tours here and there, for the next five years.

Rumors of a Phish return began heating up in early 2009, and soon enough the band announced their return with fanfare, playing a three-night run at the fan favorite Hampton Coliseum in Virginia. Since then, they have arguably been playing better than ever, causing Phish tickets to become a hot item, the band consistently lining up summer and fall tours as well as two Halloween concerts and a New Year’s run at the American AIrlines Arena in Miami last year.

Next week, Phish will return to Madison Square Garden in New York City for a three-day New Years run for the first time in eight years. Unlike their typical 12/29, 12/30, and 12/31 runs of the past, for the first time ever, Phish will play three nights starting on 12/30, including a show on 1/1. The idea of playing on January 1st, New Year’s Day is something the band has supposedly been toying with for a long time, and if rumors we’ve heard circulating from people close to the band are true, this show is expected to be full of surprises.

Tickets are going fast, with the epic New Year’s Eve show currently selling at an average of $278 per ticket, check out the rest of the data below.

Phish New Year’s Run 2010 [Updated: 12/28/10]
