Ghost Brothers of Darkland County
What started as an idea thirteen years ago from John Mellencamp and Stephen King has finally come to life. Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, a play written by the famous author and by the American music legend, will play stages across the United States this coming October and November. In addition to the creative forces of King and Mellencamp, the play will feature blues and roots music from the collaborative efforts of T Bone Burnett and Mellencamp. The play will feature will 15 actors and a four-piece live band.
So, what is the story? According to Pollstar, "The final result is a tale centering on the ghosts of brothers Jack and Andy who died in an apparent murder-suicide, and their very much alive nephews Frank and Drake along with their uncle Joe, the younger brother of the two spirits." From what I have read, the play has been influenced by a story Mellencamp told King "about a cabin in Indiana where two brothers duked it out over a woman, resulting in one sibling accidently killing the other. The remaining brother and the girl later die in a car crash." A story with a theater tour just in time for Halloween. Quite fitting if you ask me.
The album to support the work features the talents of Elvis Costello, Neko Case, Sheryl Crow, Rosanne Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Ryan Bingham, Matthew McConaughey and Meg Ryan.
Tickets for the majority of the shows go on sale May 17 while Asheville goes on sale May 18 and Louisville goes on sale May 31.
