The Bob Hope Classic began as the Palm Springs Golf Classic in 1960. Bob Hope put his name on the tournament in 1965 and became the its Chairman of the Board. Beginning in 1987, the Bob Hope Classic gravitated towards courses that were better suited for pro golfers. The tournament is also known for its celebrity Pro-Am competition. Celebrities like Bing Crosby, Kirk Douglas, Desi Arnaz and Frank Sinatra played in the tournament. U.S. Presidents Dwight Eisenhower, Gerald Ford, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton have all participated in the Bob Hope classic, too.
