Boston Celtics News: Regular Season and Preseason Updates
The Boston Celtics, who fell one win short of making an NBA Finals appearance, used their back-to-back picks in the first round to select two big names from the past year in college basketball. With the 21st overall pick, they took big man Jared Sullinger from Ohio State who, despite widely publicized injury problems, was a steal at that point in the draft. Then, with the 22nd overall pick, the Celtics selected Fab Melo from Syracuse. Clearly looking for size to fill in for Kevin Garnett when he inevitably departs in a few seasons, the 7-foot Melo and 6'9" power forward Sullinger should be able to plug the gap nicely in Garnett's absence.
Yet another playoff triple-double from Rajon Rondo wasn't enough for the Boston Celtics to fight off the Miami Heat advance to their third NBA Finals in the last five seasons. Rondo led the Celtics with 22 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds, but in the end it was LeBron James and his 31 points and 12 rebounds that led the Heat to their 101-88 win in Game 7 at the American Airlines Arena on Saturday night and propelled them on to their second consecutive appearance in the NBA Finals. The Celtics fell just short and were eliminated by the Heat for the second straight year, and many people wonder if this might have been the final playoff run for the Boston Big Three of Garnett, Allen, and Pierce.
With a chance to eliminate the Miami Heat at home on Thursday night in Game 6, the Boston Celtics came up short, losing 98-79 thanks to LeBron James' 45-point performance. The Celtics were unable to stop James right out of the gate, as 30 of his 45 points came in the first half and helped the Heat open up a 13-point lead at halftime. The Celtics' Big Three could never quite get it going, as Pierce, Garnett and Allen combined for only 31 points. Rajon Rondo led all Boston scorers with 21 points, but 19 of those came in the first half. Paul Pierce could manage only 9 points on a dismal 4-of-18 shooting. Game 7 will be in Miami on Saturday night, with the winner advancing to the NBA Finals to face the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Boston Celtics fought valiantly to even up their Eastern Conference finals series with the Miami Heat on Wednesday night, but ultimately fell 115-111 in overtime at the American Airlines Arena. Rajon Rondo, who put up 44 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds in 53 minutes of play, put on a playoff performance for the ages in Game 2, but it was all in vain as the Celtics were not able to push past the Heat and tie the series at 1-1. Instead, the Celtics will return home trailing 2-0 and will have to win a vital Game 3 to stay alive in the series and avoid falling in a 3-0 hole.
5/25/12 The Boston Celtics had a chance to eliminate the 76ers on Wednesday night and be the first team into the Eastern Conference finals, but the Sixers fought tooth and nail to stave off elimination and now the Celtics will head back home to the TD Garden in Boston for a Game 7 on Saturday night. Paul Pierce had a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds on Wednesday night in Game 6, however the rest of the Celtics offense just couldn't seem to get going for most of the night as they were stymied by a relentless Philadelphia defense that was on the attack. Now the Celtics will hope to finish off the Sixers in Game 7 to earn a rematch of last year's Eastern Conference semifinals against the Heat.
5/18/12 The Boston Celtics bounced back from their Game 2 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers with a big 107-91 win on the road in Game 3. Kevin Garnett partied like it was 2008 in putting up 27 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Garnett looked to be almost five years younger in dominating the Sixers in the low-post as well as making them pay with his patented mid-range jumper. Back in control now with a 2-1 series lead, the Celtics will look to put themselves firmly in the driver's seat with another win in Game 4 at the Wells Fargo Center on Friday night.
Celtics fans look forward to high-fives and chest-bumps, but after Rajon Rondo was ejected from Game 1 vs. the Hawks for chest-bumping a referee, it was apparent the Celtics were going to lose a poorly played game. As a consequence for his transgression, Rajon Rondo was suspended for Game 2. That left the Celtics in a must-win situation without its starting backcourt as Ray Allen would miss his second consecutive playoff game due to injury. Cue Paul Pierce! The Celtics star seems to play his best basketball when his back is against a wall, and on Tuesday night he led the Celtics past the Hawks with a monster effort! He scored 36 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, culminating with a Tebow-like gesture at midcourt. Kevin Garnett also chipped in with a double-double of his own and the Celtics tied the series before heading to Boston for Game 3. TD Garden is sure to be lively on Friday night!

Boston Celtics Tickets - Venue Information
The massive TD Garden was finished in 1995 for a cost of $160 million. Originally known as the Shawmut Center, the TD Garden is now home to two of the most successful sports teams in North America: the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics. The Celtics last won the NBA Championship in 2008 while the Bruins brought home the Stanley Cup in 2011. The arena is also home to the NLL's Boston Blazers. TD Garden underwent a major overhaul in 2006. New feature included a new, beautiful HD entertainment board and video advertising boards that replaced the original scrolling panels. A vintage siren was also added as a goal horn for hockey games. In the past, the arena has also hosted Northeastern University's commencement, UFC events, Wrestlemania and several other WWF events, and some of the nation's biggest concerts. TD Garden is built on top of Boston's North Station, a major transportation hub, so getting to games and concerts is a breeze.
