The New York band Brand New just wants to play memorable songs that young people can move to, sing along with, and remember long after the show. The quartet doesn't seek to be a heady act with deep, contemplative lyrics and lofty sophistication built into their music. They just like to keep it simple, memorable, easy to move to, and fun. And that's pretty much what you will get with Brand New tickets, a good time, with unforgettable songs, lots of involuntary movement to the beat, simple harmonies and subject matter everyone can relate to. Nothing fancy, nothing unnecessary. Brand New, which started in 2000, has always maintained a punk edge underpinning their pop tunes, expresses its share of angst, with screamed choruses that rev up their fans amid riveting guitar riffs. After four albums, though, the quartet seems to be hardening their sound, leaning more on the punk edge with each recording. Brand New is Jesse Lacey, vocals and guitar, Vincent Accardi, guitar and vocals, Garrett Tierney, bass, Brian Lane, drums, and Derrick Sherman, keyboard and guitar. Their influences draw broadly from rock history, including The Cars, Squeeze and The Beach Boys, but also Weezer and Foo Fighters. Brand New's debut album, Your Favorite Weapon, released in 2002, was written, produced and recorded completely by the band. It's a collection of mostly bitter, post-breakup anthems, and received positive reviews and decent sales, which launched Brand New into tour mode. They followed their debut in 2004 with Deja Entendu, which featured the single 'The Quiet Things That No One Every Knows,' a dark diatribe about the hidden dynamics in relationships. The song and video received good play, and headed out for another tour. After signing with Interscope, Brand New began work on their third album, The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me, with the single 'Jesus Christ,' which the band performed on the TV show Late Night with Conan O'Brien and Late Show with David Letterman. Brand New's latest album, Daisy, was released in 2009 and features the single 'At the Bottom,' and climbed to Number 6 on Billboard charts, their best showing to date.
