Written by Michael Steweart with lyrics by Lee Adams and music by Charles Strouse, Bye Bye Birdie continues to be a viable choice for regional theater seasons across the nation long after it's Broadway premiere. As a satire of 1958 American society, the story centers on Conrad Birdie, a rock star who is drafted into the army. The original Broadway production garnered several wards including a Tony, and even spawned television and film versions as well as a sequel. In 2009, Broadway's Roundabout Theatre Company opened a revival at the Henery miller's Theatre. The production, which ran until April 2010, featured the talent of John Stamos, Bill Irwin and Matt Doyle. Although it's been decades since this musical was written Bye Bye Birdie tickets remain highly coveted among theater lovers.
