That's where it all began for many bands -- bands like Dave Matthews, Agents of Good Roots, and the Pat McGee Band. And the same goes for the Celtic rock style, rootsy-flavored band called Carbon Leaf, a group formed in 1992 with guitarist Terry Clark, vocalist Barry Privett, bass guitarist Jordan Medas, guitarist Carter Gravatt, and drummer Scott Milstead. Needless to say, they were hardworking, but also impatient; they quickly formed their own label and began releasing albums in 1996, and the rest is all history.

The first album was called Meander, and following that album came the Shadows in the Banquet Hall LP along with Ether-Electrified Porch Music. Clever names and a sign that there was going to be a definite evolution in sound for this band as 2001 came around with a revolution called Echo Echo, an album that the band ventured into a different motif and quickly won a Coca-Cola-sponsored unsigned band contest. The result of that victory was a spot on the American Music Awards and opening for acts like the Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Guster, and David Gray. It clearly paved the way for yet another album from Carbon Leaf in 2004 called Indian Summer, the first album to be represented by a label other than the band's own. The label was Vanguard Records, and it showed that their talent was an inevitability toward recognition in the music industry.
