About Chrissie Hynde
Chrissie Hynde Tickets - Definitely Not Pretending to Be Superstars
Back when rock was a vintage phenomenon of free speech and a standing-up-to-the-man quality, a female singer by the name of Chrissie Hynde came to be in the '70s -- as none other than the lead singer for the Pretenders. She was born on September 7, 1951, in Akron, Ohio, grew up with the inspirations of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who, and the Kinks playing on their stages. Upon attending Kent State University, she got into the music scene by starting a band -- contrary to what one might assume, that was not the Pretenders. But it definitely led up to it! She had a passion for the early punk bands like the Stooges and the Velvet Underground, but the truth was she actually began to hate the U.S. music scene and headed to London, England, to become a rock critic. That was, however, where she found her true calling: punk rock. Once she had a look at bands like the Sex Pistols and the Clash, she was able to form her band: the Pretenders.
Chrissie Hynde Tickets - The Music of Hynde
With her lineup taken care of, work began: the self-titled debut in 1980 was released in stores as one of rock's most iconic all-time classic albums. It's most classic single was the track 'I'll Stand by You.' Hynde and her band kept trucking even through a couple overdoses with the sophomore hit album Pretenders II in 1981 and a third album in 1984 called Learning to Crawl.
Chrissie Hynde Tickets - The Style and Sound of Hynde
Think of her style as a mix between Joan Jett and Janis Joplin. She had a quiet, sensual sound to her but with an edge that was fitting for rock 'n' roll. And when you can cross over genres with just a sound and an air of quality, you've got something going. Chrissie Hynde and her Pretenders -- they were icons of their age.
