Civil Twilight - Band History

Civil Twilight began in 1996 in Cape Town, South Africa. Their career didn't officially take off, however, until 2005, when they moved to Los Angeles, where they signed to One October Records. They then released their debut full-length Human, which produced several songs that were featured on notable shows like Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and House. Eventually, the band signed to Wind-up Records and released their self-titled album in 2009, which peaked at number 16 on Billboard Heatseeker charts. The band has since supported artists like Evanescence, Three Days Grace and Anberlin. The band continues to write and tour and is currently facing an upward climb in momentum.

Civil Twilight has drawn countless comparisons to U2, as they write soaring alt-rock songs. Their style has enabled them to tour with bands like Anberlin and Crash Kings, both of which write expansive, sprawling melodies destined for radio. Lyrically, the band is centered around the concepts of love, forgiveness and spirituality. On Human, the McKellar brothers sing There's one way out and one way in, back to the beginning. There's one way back home again? It's only love, it's only pain that makes us human. The band is also capable of painting powerful images with their music.
