David Bazan had played with several other well-known bands - most notably Pedro the Lion and Starflyer 59 - before he began working on his solo project. In 2007, he released his first major album Fewer Moving Parts on renowned indie label Barsuk Records. It wasn't until 2009, however, that he released his debut full-length Curse Your Branches, which peaked at number 1 on Billboard Heatseekers charts and number 116 on the Billboard 200. In 2011, he released Strange Negotiations, further adding to his discography.
