David Gray moves "Full Steam Ahead" (Updated February 28, 2013)

The Beatles. The Rolling Stones. The Who. The list of some of the very best British artists of all time could go on and on, and quietly lost in the mix would be David Gray. The singer-songwriter from Cheshire has been topping charts in the UK through the last two decades, has sold more than 12 million albums and has a plethora awards attached to his name, and a creative spark that still burns after all these years.

Three albums, two label splits and no mainstream response might've been enough for even the best of musicians to throw in the towel, but not Gray. He made the decision to self-finance his fourth album, "White Ladder," and release it on his own label, IHT Records, in 1998. It climbed through the Irish Top 30, and ultimately enjoyed multi-platinum sales. All the while, Gray's stock was soaring in Europe and slowly rising in the States. Following a pair of compilations and two reissued records, his sophomore album "A New Day at Midnight" cemented his international breakthrough in late 2002. Three years later, "Life in Slow Motion" blessed the artist with the highest chart rankings of his career.

Seeking a new energy to his music, Gray's "Draw the Line" (2009) served as his extrospective take on the world. It featured guest vocals from Julie Holland and Annie Lennox, and critics raved about the album's finale, "Full Steam Ahead." That project was followed by his most recent effort, "Founding," which bowed in August 2010. It consists of eleven new songs and a second bonus CD of eight previously unreleased songs, with a ninth offered in the digital edition through iTunes.
