What a name for a band, too -- Dervish. It sort of makes you think of a 'Braveheart' Celtic warrior kind of thing, doesn't it? Well, this band, born in 1988 -- featuring the beautiful vocals of Cathy Jordan, flute and tin whistle player Liam Kelly, accordion player Shane Mitchell, bass guitar/guitar/bouzouki player Michael Holmes, mandolin player Brian McDonagh, and fiddle player Martin McGinley -- matched that fiery passion when label Sound Records signed them on to a music career in Ireland that could only be matched by godly power.

Their first album was entitled The Boys of Sligo, and it stirred some word about their talent. Released in 1988, it prompted work on a second album that would be entitled Harmony Hill. That album was released back in 1993, and it was actually recorded twice. Two more albums followed only just two years later -- Playing with Fire and At the End of the Day, and they were both released in 1997. Yes, both albums! There was no doubt that Dervish were icons in the Irish music industry.
