Singer Dionne Warwick has seen it all in her 50-year-plus performing career. She has been on top of the pop charts and she has seen lean years, she has dated high-profile figures, such as Philadelphia Eagles great-turned-actor Timmy Brown, actor Philip Michael Thomas and Seagram heir Edgar Bronfman. And throughout her pop singing career, Warwick has come back from obscurity time and time again. Warwick was born in 1940 into a very musical family. Her mother, aunts and uncles were members of a renowned group called the Drinkard Singers. After graduating from East Orange High School (New Jersey), she attended the Hartt College of Music in Hartford, Connecticut, on a scholarship. In 1958, Warwick formed a group called The Gospelaires with her sister, Dee Dee, and others, which began singing background sessions for artists such as Ben E. King, The Drifters and Dinah Washington. Warwick stood out and was noticed by Burt Bacharach while singing background for one of the composer's songs, launching the beginning of her booming solo career. Warwick's collaboration with Bacharach spawned numerous hit singles, starting with 1962's 'Don't Make Me Over,' and including 'Make It Easy on Yourself,' 'Walk On By,' 'Who Can I Turn To,' 'Alfie,' 'I Say a Little Prayer,' 'Do You Know the Way to San Jose,' 'This Girl's in Love With You' and 'I'll Never Fall in Love Again.' But Warwick has also struck success on her own with her hits '(Theme from) Valley of the Dolls' and 'That's What Friends Are For.'
