Down Tickets - They're Not Going Down Without a Fight
Although this particular New Orleans band really didn't have to fight too hard to make their way given they were made of infamous frontman from Pantera Phil Anselmo, Corrosion of Conformity's guitarist Pepper Keenan, a second guitarist by the name of Kirk Windstein, bass guitarist Todd Strange of Crowbar, and the truly hate metal style band Eyehategod's drummer Jimmy Bower. With their clever marketing tactics of simply handing out demos to anyone who was a fan of heavy metal without telling them they were actually part of the band, a record label actually took notice: Elektra Records.

Their first album under the label was titled NOLA, and it was released on September 19, 1995, with wonderful reviews, earning them a certification of platinum for their debut. The album was so good that even Allmusic's reviewer David Reamer praised some of the tracks on the LP, such as 'Temptations Wings,' 'Stone the Crow,' and 'Bury Me in Smoke.'

Forget the fact that the band members were already members from other popular bands.... Think about the fact that these longtime friends came together to create a masterpiece of heavy metal beauty, and know that all they had to do was just one album before returning to their respective bands. That's right: they didn't even bother with another album until 2008! It was obvious that these friends with a band they apparently loved had to return and create more hard rock classics. This debut album they did should be enough to convince you that it's worth seeing and listening to Down.... Because NOLA was given the right to be called a 'landmark album' in the genre of hard rock.
