L.A.-based band wants to be your Guest (Created March 14, 2013)

What exactly is an Electric Guest? There a lot of ways you could answer that question, but the current adaptation is a Los Angeles-based band that got its name in the strangest of ways.

Electric Guest co-founder Asa Taccone, who spent his high school years loitering outside of a local doughnut shop in Berkeley, loves to tell the story about an employee who called him 'an electric guest of the universe.' The wording stuck with Taccone, who joined with Matt "Cornbread" Compton and brothers Todd and Tory Dahlhoff to form a band with a real retro-future vibe.

Picking up momentum right out of the gate, Electric Guest earned a month's long residency at the Echo in Silverlake, California from late 2011 to early 2012. A few months later, they performed their single "This Head I Hold" on "The Late Show with David Letterman" and made the rounds at a number of major festivals. And what happens to bands that play the likes of SXSW and Bonnaroo? This one released a debut album, "Mondo," that climbed to No. 11 on the Heatseakers Albums chart and No. 49 on the Independent Albums chart.

Named as one of MTV's Artists to Watch, Electric Guest's music is a mash-up of different rhythms and moods, and their live shows have been a hit all over the world. The duo has already confirmed a handful of UK dates for April and May, 2013, including stops at Manchester's Ruby Lounge, London Scala, Bristol's O2 Academy and The Institute in Birmingham.
