Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida News: Regular Season and Preseason Updates
Based on Giuseppe Verdi's Italian-language opera by the same name, Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida was produced by Disney Theatrical for Broadway in 2000. Initially mounting in Atlanta and Chicago, the production features music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice, with a book by Linda Woolverton, Robert Falls, and groundbreaking playwright David Henry Hwang. Originating from a children's storybook version of Verdi's opera written by the soprano Leontyne Price, Aida has attracted various eclectic performers in the title role such as stars Deborah Cox, Toni Braxton, Michelle Williams, Maya Days, Saycon Sengbloh, Simone, and Merle Dandridge. Although the show has come to a close in New York, the Chicago production, produced by Bailiwick Chicago at the American Theatre Company continues to run after it's July 10, 2010 opening. Directed by Scott Ferguson with set Design by John Holt, lighting design by Jared Moore, the show features the eclectic choreography styles of Lega Jeff and Gary Abbot of the dance troupe Deeply Rooted.
