Meet the man behind the mask (Created February 13, 2013)

James Hazell, known professionally as FuntCase, is a controversial dubstep producer and DJ from Bournemouth in the United Kingdom. Known for a 'filthy' style, not to mention partying just as hard as he works, Funtcase has collaborated with some of the genre's heaviest hitters and has sold thousands of tickets worldwide.

As a young man, Hazell began to express his interest in music by playing with classmates. Influenced by death metal, he experimented with a similar drumming style heard on some of his favorite mixtapes. But it wasn't until 'Bandwagon Blues' by Twisted Individual that Hazell truly began to embrace the drum and bass sound. He quickly turned his focus to producing, distributing his tracks with D&B radio in 2007 under the moniker DJ Dose.

Hazell officially began producing dubstep in 2009, and was eventually signed to Circus Records when his tracks "So Vexed" and "Mattress Punch" became hits. As the dubstep scene began snowballing into a worldwide phenomenon, it allowed artists to branch out. Hazell, who was ever cognizant that different countries go for different styles, understood what the wide range of dubstep talent represented and how it was conductive to his own success.

Though once quoted as saying he didn't like dubstep at first, Hazell grew to embrace the big energy that came along with it. He was quoted in an interview as saying that dubstep's "got no rules, and you can let your imagination run wild." Thus you can never predict next what the man behind the mask will do next when it comes to his Funtcase persona.
