Glassjaw Tickets - Band History

Glassjaw formed in 1993 in Long Island, New York. The band began by recording demos and putting together EP's, one of which was released by indie label 2 Cents a Pop, but eventually signed to Roadrunner Records. In 2000, they released their first full-length Everything You Wanted to Know About Silence. The album is considered a holy grail in its genre, with many modern day post-hardcore bands citing it as an influence. However, it only ever gained popularity in the underground, as the band alleges that Roadrunner Records was unabashedly apathetic about marketing it. In 2001, the band signed with Warner Bros. Records and released Worship and Tribute. They toured until 2004, when the band went on hiatus primarily due to front man Daryl Palumbo's health and personal issues, but returned in late 2005. In 2011, the band officially returned with Coloring Book.

Glassjaw stand out among their peers due to their unique approach to post-hardcore. Their sound is chaotic, heavy and dark, but vocalist Daryl Palumbo frequently screams with a melodic edge to his voice, creating an original vibe different from many of the bands in their scene. The band is also fond of incorporating spacey atmospherics in their music as breaks from the brutal hardcore they usually push. Some songs, like Ry Ry's Song from Everything You Wanted to Know even have pop-punk influences.
