The Canadian troubadour Gordon Lightfoot is hailed as one of the greatest folk-pop songwriters by some of popular music's most lauded legends. Lightfoot moved to California in 1958, but returned to Canada in 1960, performing in Toronto coffee houses and building a fan base. After recording a #3 hit single in Canada, '(Remember Me) I'm the One,' in 1962, Lightfoot toured Europe, then embarked on an extensive recording and performing career that continues today. His first album, Lightfoot! in 1966, was a folksy, country-tinged collection of covers that enjoyed success with the singles 'Early Morning Rain.' After recording several more albums in the 1960s and touring heavily, Gordon Lightfoot crossed over to pop charts and gained international stardom with the release of his sixth album, Sit Down Young Stranger in 1970, which was quickly re-released as If You Could Read My Mind after the song of that title climbed fast up the charts.
