Update: October 31, 2012 - Green Day's 21st Century Breakdown

Green Day's rise to prominence came in the mid 90's, thanks to the release of the major-label debut "Dookie." That album alone sold over 10 million copies in the U.S. and spawned a few of the aforementioned singles, not to mention "Longview," "Basket Case," "Welcome to Paradise" and "She." And though the follow-up projects, "Insomniac," "Nimrod" and "Warning" did not achieve the same success, they still reached double platinum and gold status.
The band's so-called 'rock opera,' dubbed "American Idiot," was released in 2004 and charted in 27 countries. It has sold more than 14 million copies worldwide, including 6 million in the U.S. An adaptation of the concept album was made into a Broadway musical six years later. Previews began on March 24, 2010 and the play officially opened on April 20, 2010. It closed on April 24, 2011 after 422 performances, and while Green Day did not appear in the production, Armstrong performed the lead role occasionally throughout the run.
Green Day's eighth studio album, "21st Century Breakdown" was released in 2009 and achieved the band's best chart performance to date. It also released a trilogy of albums called "¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tr&eacute!, to be released September 25, 2012, November 13, 2012, and January 15, 2013 respectively.
Armstrong recently checked into rehab for substance abuse after an onstage tirade at the iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas, leading the band to cancel multiple appearances. They currently have tour dates scheduled beginning November 26, 2012, but it's still up in the air if these dates will also be affected.
