Jason Mraz - From Coffee House to Concert Headliner

Straight from the San Diego coffee house scene, Jason Mraz used a jolt of Joe to find worldwide critical and commercial success inside a five-year window. The singer-songwriter from Virginia tapped into a crowd in tune with the sounds of local roots musicians and ran with the support, his popularity soaring as high as his vocal range as he crisscrossed the country.

Moving from the Commonwealth known as Old Dominion into the madness of a bustling New York, the California music scene would eventually settle Mraz in more ways than one. Landing a weekly gig at local hot spot Java Joe's after heading out West, Mraz formed a duo with drummer Noel "Toca" Rivera and moved into the Los Angeles area to grab the attention of record labels. He had a deal in place by 2002 and released his debut album, "Waiting for My Rocket to Come," that same year.

On the heels of an international breakthrough following the release of his sophomore effort, "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)" in 2005, Mraz kicked down the door three years later. His third studio album, "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things," debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 was a commercial success around the world. It contained the single, "I'm Yours," which sat on the Hot 100 for 76 weeks, besting the previous record of 69 weeks held by Lee Ann Rimes for "How Do I Live."

Mraz's fourth album, "Love is a Four Letter Word," was released on April 13, 2012. Though it received generally favorable reviews, it was panned by one critic who attacked Mraz for his, "relentlessly upbeat and happy romanticism. The review went on to state that outlook was, "annoying for even the least cynical."

A tour in support of the album returns stateside in December, with Mraz expected to play Z100's Jingle Ball Jam at Madison Square Garden on Friday, December 7. He'll headline the iconic venue on his own four nights later.
