Joe Purdy gets 'Lost' (Updated January 2, 2013)

Joe Purdy was anything but 'Lost' when his song "Wash Away" was featured in the 2004 season of the ABC hit drama. The singer/songwriter from Arkansas had labored on a loading dock and worked as a counselor at a high school before moving to California in 2001, where he began writing songs and playing piano.

By the time Purdy was contacted by J.J. Abrams, the executive producer of "Lost," he already had several homemade albums to his credit and got his break in L.A. with 2003's "StompinGrounds." So when Abrams came calling, asking Purdy to write a song for the show, "Wash Away" was penned while Purdy traversed an island on a river in upstate New York. The song went on to chart on iTunes after being part of "Lost" episode 1.03.

Shortly after, Purdy became the go-to guy for television. His song "Suitcase" would be featured on the seventh episode of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" and "I Love the Rain" would be part of the eighth episode. In addition, it was featured on the show's season one soundtrack, landing Purdy three more songs in Grey's episodes. He finally moved away from ABC when "Rainy Day Lament" was featured on the FOX TV series "House M.D."

Purdy has released 12 albums in over eight years, and in 2012 began to affiliate with The Giving Tree Band, a rock outfit from Yorkville, Illinois. The band members perform on everything from acoustic and electric guitars to banjos and violin. With their bluegrass and Americana sound, they have played noted festivals such as South by Southwest, Wakarusa and the Philadelphia Folk Festival.
