Singer Jon Anderson's long career has included a number of collaborations and several solo projects, and he has never been idle for long. But throughout his entire career, one affiliation has remained constant, though on-again, off-again: his work with the super group Yes. One of the founding members of the consummate progressive rock band, along with bassist Chris Squire and guitarist Peter Banks, drummer Bill Bruford and keyboardist Tony Kaye, Jon Anderson has become Yes's defining vocal sound, even while he has always found time for other projects. Born in 1944 in Lancashire, England, Anderson joined a band called The Warriors in 1962, sharing vocalist duties with his brother Tony. He quit The Warriors to release two solo singles under the pseudonym Hans Christian Anderson in 1968, to limited success. Shortly afterward, he met Squire and began singing for his band, Mabel Greer's Toyshop, which eventually led to Yes. With Yes, Anderson enjoyed enormous success, acting as a major creative force for the band and playing vital roles in producing some of their important early works, such as 'Close to the Edge' and 'Awaken.' It wasn't until Yes's third album, The Yes Album, released in 1971, that their international fame began to brew, sparked by the single 'I've Seen All Good People.' Their follow-up album, Fragile, catapulted them to iconic status, fueled by their signature sound on songs like 'Roundabout.' Yes has always been a mainstay of Anderson's career, but he has also recorded 14 solo albums, and has collaborated with Vangelis, Kitaro and has developed his instrumental skills over the years.
