British rocker John Waite has been at it for several decades, climbing to the top of the pop charts and stardom in the 1980s as MTV was taking over. Born in 1952 in Lancaster, England, Waite became lead singer of the British group The Babys, and fronted the band as they scored two hits, 'Isn't It Time' in 1977 and 'Everytime I Think of You' in 1979. When The Babys broke up, Waite launched his solo career, releasing his debut album, Ignition, in 1982, with a minor hit, 'Change.' It was his next album, No Brakes that launched Waite into international stardom, led by the smash hit 'Missing You,' which shot to Number 1 on Billboard, and resulted in more than a million and a half sales of the album. His follow-up album, Mask of Smiles, featured a minor hit, 'Every Step of the Way,' but another song, 'If Anybody Had a Heart,'' was picked up for the soundtrack of the film About Last Night, which began a succession of soundtrack songs for Waite. His solo career stalled, Waite teamed up with former Babys Jonathan Cain and ricky Phillips in 1988 to form the supergroup Bad English, which scored a hit with their ballad 'When I See You Smile,' which climbed to Number 1. The band released two more albums before dissolving. Waite resumed his solo career in 1995 and has produced five albums, including his lates, Rough & Tumble in 2011.
