She was only 14 years old. That prompted a listen in New York City for an audition. She performed Donna Summer's 'On the Radio' for the S-Curve CEO, and instantly her last name was changed, she dropped out of school, and a record deal was hatched.

She had the likes of Betty Wright, Little Beaver, Timmy Thomas, Angie Stone, and the Roots helping her out. This was an album that literally only took four days to put together -- and needless to say, when you have the greats like Laura Lee, Bettye Swann, Betty Wright, and Aretha Franklin on the album, you've got the makings of a great album. It did really well, selling over 500,000 copies, and it earned Stone the prestige of creating a second effort, entitled Mind, Body & Soul, featuring original content, most of it written solely by Stone herself! She earned three Grammy nominations and two BRIT Awards for her work.
