Kansas State's football program began in 1896. The Wildcats lost their first official game to Fort Riley, 14-0.The Wildcats found success early on their program's history. K-State appeared to be headed to the Rose Bowl in 1931, but standout fullback Ralph Graham got hurt. In 1934, K-State went 5-0 in the Big Six Conference for its first major conference championship. Sadly, winning at Kansas State dried up for the next 60 years until Bill Snyder took over the program in 1991. That year, the Wildcats finished 7-4, and just missed out on receiving a bowl bid. Kansas State went to its first bowl game in 1993 and went 11-0 during the 1998 regular season. Snyder led K-State to 136 victories during his first 17 years with the Wildcats, which was as many as the program had won from 1935 to 1988. The Wildcats also won Big 12 North titles in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2003 under Snyder.
