Kenny Loggins is one of the great hit makers, in the same category with John Hiatt and Michael McDonald, those who created huge hits for themselves but also for many other artists. Loggins skyrocketed for international fame in the 1980s with a succession of blockbuster movie soundtrack theme songs, and chances are, either via radio play or the big screen, nearly everyone has heard a Kenny Loggins song in some form. But Kenny Loggins had been making hits long before those movies came along. Born in 1948 in Everett, Washington, Loggins' family moved to Alhambra, California, where he graduated from high school in 1966 and formed a band called Second Helping. But his break came when he started writing songs for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, such as 'House at Pooh Corner' from their 19709 album Uncle Charlie & His Dog Teddy. Producer Jim Messina was impressed with Loggins' songs and the two came together as the very successful band Loggins & Messina, with hits like 'Danny's Song' and again, 'House at Pooh Corner,' both from their first album, as well as 'Your Mama Don't Dance' from their second album. By the late 1970s, Loggins and Messina split over creative differences and Kenny Loggins embarked on his solo career, producing his first solo album Celebrate Me Home, with the hit single 'I Believe in Love,' sung by Barbra Streisand in the movie A Star is Born.
