Born in 1977 in Shreveport, Louisiana, Kenny Wayne Shepherd taught himself guitar after receiving one as a gift while still a toddler. After meeting the immortal Stevie Ray Vaughan at age seven, Shepherd hit the guitar in earnest, he has said, learning the licks of Muddy Waters tunes, Vaughan and Albert Lee. At age 13, when he was invited on stage by New Orleans bluesman Bryan Lee and held his own for hours, Shepherd decided to pursue music, making demos and videotaping a performance that got him a record deal with Giant Records. It didn't take long for Shepherd to get radio play, scoring several singles in the Top 10 from his debut album, Ledbetter Heights, released in 1995. His second album, Trouble Is?, released in 1996, was even more successful. Since then, Shepherd has released four more albums, including 2011's How I Go, and received five Grammy Award nominations, plus two Billboard Music Awards and two Blues Music Awards. Known for his soulful live performances, Shepherd has become a seasoned stage presence at a young age for a bluesman.
