Candlestick Park is the grizzled veteran of the west coast sports scene. The stadium has seen arguably some of the most important events in this country's sports history and is still a reliable venue for an entertaining time. For much of the stadium's existence, it was home to both the San Francisco Giants and 49ers. Between these two teams, the stadium has played host to two World Series and eight NFC Championship games. In addition the stadium has seen its fair share of special events, such as two MLB All-Star games and hosting the Beatle's last live commercial concert in 1966. In 2000, the Giants moved to nearby AT&T Park, virtually rendering the stadium a football only venue. These days, Candlestick Park offers a largely no-frills experience when watching a game. With the stadium's age and everything it has been through, the 1989 earthquake during the World Series for example, it is a testament to the original build quality that it still hosting football games year in and year out. The 49ers are set to move to a new stadium in Santa Clara. The final game at Candlestick Park will take place at the conclusion of the 2013 season. While the stadium itself isn't the experience it used to be, it does have a unique charm that only decades of sustained success can bring.
