M. Ward - Band History

M. Ward (short for Matthew Stephen Ward) began his solo career in 1999 with Duet for Guitars #2. His calm, talent-laden style soon drew the attention of Future Farmer Records, which released End of Amnesia (2001), but by the time Ward released Transfiguration of Vincent in 2003, he had already reached a deal with renowned indie label Merge Records. Ward gradually built attention and a fan base through the release of what currently sits at 7 full-length albums, but he never experienced significant difficulty in getting to where he is today, mainly due to the fact that his adept musicianship made his music attractive to feature in commercials and movies. That is not to say that he is any way anything other than hardworking; Post War (2006) was his first album to crack Billboard (it peaked at number 146). The trend since then, however, has been upward. Hold Time (2009) had no trouble reaching number 31 on U.S. Billboard charts, and Ward has since appeared on everything from late night shows to major music festivals. He is also known for his work in She & Him with famous actress Zooey Deschanel.
