About Medeski Martin and Wood tickets

The jazz trio Medeski Martin and Wood have never been afraid to venture beyond the limits of conventional musical tastes, and their experimentations with avant-garde flavors have always remained close by their side during their performing and recording career. But as their fans will tell you, their musical adventurism doesn't in any way detract from their ability to get an audience moving and grooving to their jazzy, funky sounds. The trio is John Medeski, who plays keyboards, mostly Hammond B3 organ, Billy Martin on drums, and Chris Wood on bass. The group came together in 1991 and first performed at New York's Village Gate as an acoustic trio before Medeski opted to switch to the Hammond organ, partly as a way to simplify the touring difficulties with a grand piano. They recorded their first album, Notes from the Underground in 1992, their only collection of all-acoustic music. Their 15 albums since have featured Medeski's innovative uses of not only the Hammond, but a slew of other keyboard instruments, too. The result is a hypnotic, rhythmic wide-open jam on stage, often lapsing into a free-jazz exploration of musical expression, harmonic dialogues between organ and drums, bass and organ, bass and drums, all three together. With the reputation they have built for these free jams, it's no surprise Medeski Martin and Wood have performed with jam band Phish, as well as frequently recording with jazz innovator, guitarist John Scofield.
