About Michael Feinstein tickets
Singer and pianist Michael Feinstein has turned his voice into a powerful instrument of business, building a musical brand that has launched a record label, a chain of nightclubs and several best-selling albums while packing venues worldwide. Feinstein specializes in songs from the American Popular Songbook, from tunes composed by Ira and George Gershwin to Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hammerstein and many more classic songwriters. Feinstein's star rose in the 1980s as part of the wave of pre-rock song popularity that also gave rise to the career of jazz singer and pianist Harry Connick, Jr., and spurred an album of showtune hits by Linda Ronstadt, accompanied by the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Born in 1956 in Columbus, Ohio, Michael Feinstein started piano at age five, and worked piano bars after high school before moving to Los Angeles and landing a job as archivist for Ira Gershwin, until the legendary lyricist's death in 1983. He began performing in L.A. cabarets and turned that into a national act, releasing his debut album, Pure Gershwin, in 1985. A four-month gig at the Algonquin Hotel in New York turned into another album, Live at the Algonquin the following year. Since then, Feinstein has continually built his repertoire, his following and his business, steadily recording his collections of American popular songs, including his 29th and most recent, Fly Me to the Moon in 2010. Meanwhile, he lent his name to a nightclub chain and regular performs at Feinstein's, both in New York and Hollywood, and has started his own label, Feinery, to record 'hidden gems' from Americana.
