Mt Eden a social media sensation (Updated December 18, 2012)

The brainchild of New Zealand's Jesse Cooper and Harley Rayner, Mt Eden has emerged as a bright spot in both the local and international dubstep scenes. Known for songs like, "Sierra Leone," "Silence" and "Still Alive," the duo has used the power of YouTube to draw a passionate following of thousands of fans from all corners of the globe.

Mt Eden quickly gained popularity when a bootleg recording of "Sierra Leone" hit video-sharing websites. In a short time, they hit the big time. The song quickly had some 4.5 million views on YouTube, with listeners immediately drawn to their soul-filled vocals and drum and bass lines. As it stands today, they can claim over 80 million collective plays of their tracks – more than any other New Zealand act.

Cooper and Rayner were just teens when they started mixing on their home computers. From the confines of their bedrooms they were suddenly grappling with the idea that they had achieved international success. And although they don't have the backing and financial resources of any record label, they released the EP "Meds EP" on December 7, 2010. The duo is also currently working on its debut album.

Mt Eden's live shows are known to contain drum solos, double and triple drops and extended build-ups to keep the crowd loud and excited throughout the entire show.
