Rock bands Phish and Dave Matthews Band have been together for two decades and more, comparatively. Each band is on tour this summer and I want to give you a review of each show so you can decide if you would like to see either over the next three months.

Phish was formed in 1983 and broke up in 2004. They reunited in 2009 and have resumed their usual activities. I did searches on Live Nation and ABC for concert reviews and these are some of the comments I found from fans who have been to shows of Phish. One fan commented, “What an intense show…” followed by another fan who said the band’s energy really feeds into the audience.

Back in January, the stage was described as looking like a UFO and the fans swarmed around it while listening to the music. I also read that Phish changes something about their show every time they perform so no two shows are ever the same. The ABC review said the audience hangs on every note that Phish plays and the band itself has been described as “legendary”.

Dave Matthews Band also has quite a long history behind it. It formed in 1991 in Virginia and is known for summer-long tours in the U.S. and Europe. What I found interesting is that the Dave Matthews Band will not be touring in 2011 so each member of the band can have time off to spend with his/her family. This will be the first time in 20 years that the band has not toured.

A fan on Live Nation said of the Dave Matthews Band show, “…[it is] one of the best ones I’ve ever seen live.” As I read through other comments, I saw that everyone seems to be in good spirits during a Dave Matthews performance.

Phish announced that they will perform at the Austin City Limits show and Dave Matthews Band will be performing at Bonnaroo. So, if you have tickets to the festival in Manchester, Tenn. or in Austin, Texas, expect to see a great show. Below is a chart that shows the rise and fall of average ticket prices over several concert dates now through August. As you can see, Dave Matthews Band tickets spike in July with an average price of almost $200. Phish peaks also around this time with an average price of $121.
