Nikon at Jones Beach Theater Tickets - Overview and History

Nikon at Jones Beach Theater is an outdoor amphitheatre located at Jones Beach State Park in Wantagh, New York. Opened in 1952 as the Jones Beach Marine Theater, the venue was designed to specifications developed by Robert Moses, who created Jones Beach State Park as President of the Long Island State Park Commission. Originally a 8,200 seat venue for musicals, it became predominantly a venue for concerts in the 1980s and later underwent an extensive renovation in 1991 and 1992 after which the seating capacity was 11,200 seats with a second level of seating. Another expansion occurred in 1998 after which the seating capacity was increased to 15,000 seats. In 2002, clothing designer Tommy Hilfiger purchased the naming rights to the amphitheatre naming it Tommy Hilfiger at Jones Beach Theater but after his company did not keep the rights in 2006, Long Island based camera manufacturer Nikon purchased the naming rights giving the venue the current name of Nikon at Jones Beach Theater. In 2009, Jones Beach introduced The Bay Stage, a general admission outdoor stage with a capacity of 5,000 that is situated adjacent to the Nikon at Jones Beach Theater.
